>> special New Years Day gathering - more info <<
We begin each evening together with a grounding and centering and brief introductions. All steps and movements are taught before each dance. We dance in a circle around a centerpiece of candles and other centering objects. Sometimes we invite the group to connect with each other while dancing, and at other times one might prefer to dance meditatively with eyes closed. In the first half of the evening we throw in more playful and celebratory dances. After our break we continue with more contemplative dances, turning off most of the lights by the end. We close with another brief meditation and blow out the center candles together.
All dances are relatively simple, ancient and modern, from around the world. Our group has a particular interest in dances that are a form of prayer, whether they hail from Bulgaria, are danced versions of healing flower essences, or are contemporary choreographies. Most of our dances are accompanied by recorded music from around the world. Some dances are accompanied by our group singing.
Twin Circles Sacred Circle Dance meets the second Sunday of every month from 6:30pm to 9:00pm. The first 15 minutes are for socializing and setup.
To minimize disruptions for everyone and to enhance the meditative experience, it's really helpful if you arrive on time (before 6:45), and we encourage you not to arrive after 8pm during the more contemplative dance set.
We also have a tradition of a special elongated day of Sacred Circle Dance and potluck every January 1st to consciously put a right foot forward into the new year.
We welcome a wide range of abilities and ages. Unfortunately our space is not wheelchair accessible. We mostly use hypo-allergenic candles.
Dress is casual and needs to allow for movement. To protect the lovely wood floor, we dance in barefeet, non-skid socks, houseslippers (with closed heel is best), or special dancing shoes ~ please wear clean non-marking shoes only. Dancing barefeet helps us connect with the earth.
We recommend that you bring some water for the break time.
We strive for scent-free gatherings.
To cover the cost of the dance space (roughly $20 for our group for one evening), we invite free will donations. No one is turned away for lack of funds.
Our group thrives on shared leadership. Currently our group has 3 active core teachers (Elizabeth, Emily & White Ash) that share leadership with each other throughout the evening. A sign-up sheet welcomes others to volunteer to lead dances, build the centerpiece, or guide us through meditations.
